Editorial policy
This page exists so you can judge how much weight to give anything else on the site. It sets out how the content is produced, what we will and will not claim, how we are funded, and how to get something corrected.
What this site is
Fix My Speaker is an independent, free utility. It publishes one tool — a browser-based tone generator for clearing water and debris from device speakers — and the reference material needed to use it sensibly. It is not affiliated with Apple, Samsung, Google, JBL or any other manufacturer named on the site. Those names appear only to describe compatibility.
How claims are sourced
The rule is narrow and we apply it consistently:
- A statement is presented as fact only if it traces to a primary source — manufacturer documentation, a published standard, a government or intergovernmental health body, or an established physical constant. Those are listed on the sources page along with what each is cited for.
- Anything else is labelled in the text as convention, inference or estimate. The clearest example is 165 Hz: it is an engineering convention inherited from the Shortcuts community, and we say so plainly rather than dressing it up as a derived constant.
- Where we cannot source a figure, we do not publish one. This is why you will find no success rates, device counts or usage statistics here.
What we do not do
Stated explicitly so there is nothing to discover later:
- We do not run laboratory tests. We have not measured ejection efficiency or tested a device matrix, and we do not claim to have. Our methodology page spells out exactly what has and has not been verified.
- We do not take sponsorship, advertising or affiliate commission. No paid placements, no review-for-product arrangements, no referral links to repair services or accessories.
- We do not track you. No analytics, no cookies, no third-party scripts of any kind. This is independently checkable: open the page source, or your browser's network tab, and you will find no requests to any other host.
- We do not gate anything. No account, no email capture, no app upsell, no artificial delay before the tool runs.
How we handle uncertainty
Most of the competitive advantage in this category comes from being willing to say "this will not help you". Every tool page carries a section on what the method cannot fix — torn diaphragms, corrosion, failed amplifiers, sticky residue — because a reader who runs twenty more cycles on a mechanically broken speaker has lost an evening and still has a broken speaker.
Where the honest answer is "take it to a repair shop", the page says that, even though it sends the reader away.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, we would rather know:
- Report it to [email protected], ideally with the page and the specific sentence.
- We check it against the primary source. If a manufacturer has changed its guidance, the manufacturer wins.
- We correct the page and update the "last checked" date at the foot of it.
- Substantive corrections are described in the text, not silently swapped, so the change is visible to anyone who read the earlier version.
Reports that something did not work on a particular device are genuinely more useful to us than reports that it did, because they are what expose gaps in the guidance.
Review cadence
Manufacturer support documentation changes, and so do device layouts. Pages carry a "last checked" date. Technical pages and anything citing a manufacturer or standard are re-checked against their sources when that date is more than a year old, or sooner if a reader reports a discrepancy.
Conflicts of interest
There are none to declare. The site sells nothing, recommends no product for commission, and has no commercial relationship with any manufacturer or repair service. If that ever changes — for instance if advertising is introduced — this page and the privacy policy will be updated before it goes live, not after.
